Born in Changsha, China, Yi Kai immigrated to the United States following the 1989 massacre in Tienanmen Square and has spent the past two decades reinventing himself as an artist. Through his vast life experiences, travel and witness to the human condition, his art is preoccupied with humanism, cultural and social subject matters and explores the differences between repressive cultures and governments and the freedoms of democracy.
